Tarot and Energy Healing:
What's the connection?
"Okay, Ruth, I understand, I guess, about the energy healing," people say to me. "But really now, how does Tarot reading fit in with all this? How can picking cards be more than just coincidence?" Let me tell you what I think about this.
I see that energy healing is becoming more accepted. People can feel energy, and people can see results. When my Qigong students start listening to their bodies and connecting mind, body and spirit, they see positive changes on all levels. My Reiki and Tong Ren clients see themselves becoming empowered as they feel energy flowing where before there had been blockages. Their lives become fuller as they heal from their illnesses.
I believe the energy healing works because of three principles.
The first is that living beings are beings of interconnected levels -- physical, emotional, mental and spiritual -- and the connections among levels are energetic, vibratory.
The second is that everything in the universe is connected -- a web of energy. This means that we can tap into universal energy, or energy from the collective unconscious, to heal ourselves or others.
The third principle is that thought is primary and creates reality, the physical world is a manifestation of our thoughts. An energy healer can use his/her mind to help release blockages and restore harmony in recipients. This accounts for distance healing -- physical touch is not necessary. And by thoughts I include both conscious and unconscious thought. Healers have learned to align their conscious and unconscious minds to facilitate healing in others. Healers do their own practice to stay aligned and clear.
I think these principles can account for Tarot readings. I have seen people pick the same Tarot cards, or cards with a similar theme, until they really SEE the issue and start to resolve it. I remember a reading I did about a relationship. The cards indicated that a change was vital. The client was not happy with that reading, and asked if she could pick two more cards and if I would tell her what they meant. I said, "of course," and the cards she selected were similar in meaning to cards already revealed in the layout: a change was necessary. Coincidence? I believe not.
I often compare the Tarot to dreams. I have found that dream motifs repeat for me until I finally figure out what the issue is that the dream is telling me about.
"But Ruth, dreams are clearly from our unconscious, it's not the same as picking cards," people will say.
Well, if everything in the universe is connected energetically, then someone coming for a Tarot reading will choose the cards that reflect the issues they come with. If we do create our own reality, through our conscious and unconscious mind, then we will keep producing situations for ourselves to help us break through blocks and limitations. And if we are open to receiving guidance, we will will get it, whether through a Tarot reading, a healing, or an amazing "aha" moment of alignment.
So, that is how I see the connection between the Tarot and energy healing. Each and every one of us is able to tap into the healing energy of the cosmos to align mind, body, and spirit, to resolve problems, and to live fuller and healthier lives.
